Making the Right Choice Under Pressure

Sierra came in for a pregnancy test after taking a couple at home. Confirming her home tests, the Pregnancy Resource Center test returned a positive result. Sierra seemed ok with the unplanned pregnancy and her boyfriend was acting like the result was ok as well. Sierra scheduled an ultrasound 1 week later when she would be six weeks pregnant.

At six weeks, the baby's heart beat is detectable on the ultrasound.

When she returned for her ultrasound, Sierra revealed that she was seeking an abortion. After speaking with her parents and having further discussion with her boyfriend, she decided she would abort her baby. She said that her relationship with her boyfriend “wasn’t great” and that her parents said this isn't the right time for her to have a baby.

Sierra stated, “I know I’m killing my baby, but it’s the best thing for me and the baby.” The counselor asked Sierra for permission to challenger her on that statement and how it would be best for the baby to kill the baby. Sierra didn’t have an answer. Sierra started to tear up. The Counselor reminded Sierra that it was her decision and she needs to be comfortable with the decision.

Sierra had the ultrasound but did not want picture. After her ultrasound, Sierra stated she still had to have the abortion. The volunteer peer counselor gave her post-abortion information and told her to come back if she experiences any of the feelings listed in the brochure after she has her abortion.

About a week later, Sierra called the Center asking for a picture of the ultrasound. Ultrasonographer printed one and left it at the front desk. Two weeks later, the picture was still there. The Client Services Director called Sierra to find out if she still wanted picture. Sierra stated she forgot that she had asked for it.

During the discussion it was revealed Sierra was still pregnant and was waiting for her Medicaid to kick in to go to the doctor. Sierra was invited to come in that day for another ultrasound and was very excited to see how the baby has developed. Sierra will return next week to begin the “Earn While You Learn” parenting skills development program.

Please enjoy these pictures of Sierra's nine week old baby safely growing in her mothers tummy.
In this ultrasound picture you can clearly see the head, body, arms, legs, and a hand that appears to be giving a high five.

Ultrasound Pictures

Here are a couple of ultrasound pictures that we have taken over the past few months. Many women come to Pregnancy Resource Center for a free pregnancy test and some are looking for an abortion. For a woman with a positive pregnancy test that is between 6 and 14 weeks, we offer a free ultrasound. For the women considering abortion, seeing the ultrasound is a heart transforming experience that leads to a change of mind more than 80% of the time.

For example:

Autumn was not satisfied with the results of the pregnancy test that she had taken at home. Autumn came to the Pregnancy Resource Center hoping for a different result. The pressures of her senior year and a promise to her late father to finish high school lead her to conclude that a pregnancy would only get in the way. Additionally, her boyfriend was not supportive, and money was tight. She said that if her pregnancy test was positive, then she would have to get an abortion.

Autumn’s volunteer counselor assured her that she would still be able to finish high school, as the estimated due date for the baby was after her graduation date. Her counselor provided her with the names of organizations willing to provide material services to help women who choose life for their children, and she explained to Autumn the physical, emotional, and spiritual risks associated with having an abortion. Autumn loves Jesus and knows that God does not want her to have an abortion.

After reviewing her positive pregnancy test and a video explaining the abortion procedure, Autumn was still abortion minded. The counselor suggested that Autumn have an ultrasound before making a decision and prayed with the family for God to reveal Himself and for His will to be done.

Autumn and her family returned the next day for the ultrasound and, prior to the ultrasound, Autumn revealed to her counselor that she and her mom had talked and she decided to keep her baby. God changed her heart. During the ultrasound, Autumn heard her baby’s heartbeat and was thrilled.

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. (Ezekiel 36:26-27NASB)

Sarah and Ryan came into the Center on a Monday morning after calling twice for abortion information. Sarah met with one of our dedicated counselors and requested an abortion. She proceeded to tell the counselor how she lives at home, attends a local state college, and works part time. This pregnancy would not only ruin her future goals she has planned for her life but disappoint and embarrass her father if he found out about her pregnancy.

Sarah’s pregnancy test came back positive; she began to sob. In this moment the counselor was moved to tell her about the one thing in this world that could give absolute hope: the Lord, Jesus Christ. The Gospel was presented to Sarah, and she began to see how, with the Lord on her side, she could make it as a single mother. There was no better choice to be made than to receive the free gift of eternal life from God!

With her “eyes” now open, Sarah understood that her baby is a life, a child that she needs to protect, a gift from the Lord. At this point in the counseling session, her boyfriend Ryan was asked to join them. Ryan was presented with the Gospel, and he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Sarah and Ryan are now planning to carry their baby to term and get married. Praise God for His miraculous work.

Thank you for supporting the Pregnancy Resource Center. It is through your support that we get to witness the transformation of lives and hearts.
